Gold Exploration Sr Geologist Extraordinaire

“My tribute to Noel Sheppy!”

CIMG5946

This Renaissance man became a Geologist by accident; some of his talents & bio data:

1.In his youth at High School & University he acted on stage, sang, danced & played musical instruments as good as anyone. Oh I forgot he became a class president & started a newspaper, as he is a brilliant writer. This is evident & shows up in all Geo Reports he authors. His classmates voted he was most likely to become a stage actor in London. Boy were they surprised at one of his class reunions! He can whistle any bird song he hears with a little practice (amazing)!

2. He was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).

3. His first language is Shona, then English, Arabic (from 6yrs of work there) and quite a bit of Portuguese (from his work in Mozambique)

4. He immigrated to Australia in 1971 to start his Geologist career

5. He’s worked for the Who’s who of the largest mining companies in the world; to mention a few: (Rio Tinto, Newmont, Amoco……etc)

6. He’s had many accomplishments & credits in his career but in my opinion; the biggest is his work on the largest IOCG deposit in the world; Olympic Dams, Australia from 1976 to 1979. As an advisor for Amoco he recommended to the site geologists a more promising drill location; that resulted in finding the final location of the anomaly (ore deposit) which is covered with 250 meters of overburden. He also recommended to his Principals  an open cast mine; which they are doing now & just approved. He was 40 years ahead of everybody! See link & photo:

7. I worked & collaborated with him for 3 years on multiple alluvial and hard rock gold exploration projects for private and publicly listed Canadian stock companies.

8. And for 2 years on our massive IOCG project in Zambia.

9. Unfortunately Noel tripped and shattered his hip; that required immediate emergency surgery and now he just went through his 2nd surgery, a complete hip replacement, he endures with a great attitude for the future

10. A great friend and even greater Geologist, he can read rocks like a book, of 35 or so geologists I’ve worked with; he’s the “Best of the Rest!. Some photos:
